riverfest4aOn Saturday, October 7th, Riverfest welcomed around 2,600 people to its festival held in Columbia park to partake in family friendly educational activities for kids and engage the public on the importance of the Federal Columbia River Power System through education, interaction, and media. It also highlighted the importance of the four lower Snake River dams and their impact on navigation, irrigation, recreation, and power in Washington state. WSPC supports Riverfest’s mission and took part in the event with a Potato Power booth to educate kids on how powerful a potato can be by helping them learn to make a potato battery. It was a fun, festive, and educational event with over 80 other exhibitors participating to support the cause of Riverfest.

Coincidentally, the timing of the festival aligns with a recent listening session hosted by the White Houseriverfest1 Council on Environmental Quality for the Federal Columbia River Power System litigation mitigation process to resolve continuing Columbia Basin salmon and steelhead recovery efforts. Riverfest has created a documentary ‘Our Rivers. Our Life’ to share the history of how the Columbia River System affects agriculture, energy, salmon, transportation, recreation, and commerce in Washington. Through broadcasts on KVEW, KOMO, KOIN, and KHQ, over 60,000 people have viewed the documentary. Plus, it has received two digital million impressions in Spokane metro markets and along the I-5 corridor.
