WASHINGTON LABOR AND INDUSTRIES (L&I) WORKERS’ COMPENSATION RATES INCREASING IN 2024

0.0/5 rating (0 votes)

The average proposed rate increase for Workers’ Compensation is 9% with several agricultural categories seeing double digit increases. Double digit increases on ag categories include Farm internship program B by 21%, orchards by 10%, vineyards by 12%, and livestock farms and stables by 12%. In Washington, L&I covers approximately 198,000 employers, and 2.66 million workers. Higher than normal pay rate increases in Washington state accounts for part of the need to increase rates. As salaries increase, so does the cost of replacing wages for injured workers. L&I is reducing the impact to workers and employers by utilizing the contingency reserve to help cover costs and limit rate increases.

L&I is scheduling public hearings to allow input on the rate proposal before a final decision occurs. Adoption of the final rates takes place on November 30, 2023 and goes into effect January 1, 2024. For more information on the proposal, go here.
