Oven Baked Potato

Nothing beats a classic baked potato! In this recipe, you'll be shopping for russet potatoes-the big, brown, oblong ones-because they are best for baking. Remember to use potholders when you take the potato out of the oven. Cut it open carefully-it will be hot and steamy!

What you'll need to make this recipe:

  • Vegetable brush
  • Fork
  • Potholders


  • 2 Washington russet potatoes, 8 ounces each


  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F
  2. Scrub the potatoes with a vegetable brush in the sink under cold running water
  3. Poke each potato several times with a fork
  4. Carefully put the potatoes in preheated oven
  5. Bake for 50 minutes
  6. Carefully open the oven door and poke a potato with a fork or sharp knife to see if it is tender. If not, reset the timer for 10 more minutes
  7. Using potholders, carefully remove potatoes
