Potatoes have been an approved vegetable in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) since 2014; however, years of misconceptions about potatoes being “unhealthy” kept state agencies from promoting potatoes to families. Now, via an app called WICShopper , WIC participants can access more potato recipes and new educational resources to help them prepare healthy meals using potatoes while debunking common myths about potato nutrition.

The WICShopper app is used by more than 750,000 families each month and helps participants navigate benefits and access WIC-friendly recipes. With the addition of 20 new, simple, and delicious potato recipes, plus easy-to-understand potato nutrition videos, participants learn how easy and healthy it is to incorporate potatoes of all kinds into their families’ meals. Each month more potato recipes and resources will be added to the app so participants continue to learn how versatile and nutritious potatoes can be.
