BOARD MEMBERSHIP CHANGES TO POTATOES USA

BOARD MEMBERSHIP CHANGES TO POTATOES USA
0.0/5 rating (0 votes)

After a substantial review period involving the Potatoes USA staff, board members, growers and other industry participants, the Potatoes USA Board will be changing it’s membership by revising the formula to determine the number of producers and importer seats on the board.  These enhancements, that will go into effect on February 7, 2024, are designed to make the operations more efficient and reflective of the industry it supports.  Currently, Washington State has a total of 19 seats, with the new rule, Washington will now have 10 Board seats.  This change will allow each member to sit on a committee and be more engaged in the process.  Current members will serve out their terms. The final rule will be published to the Federal Registry on Monday, January 8, 2024.  If you have any questions or are interested in serving on the Potatoes USA Board, please feel free to reach out to Brandy Tucker at This email address is being protected from spambots. Potato Research and Promotion Plan; Changes to Board Membership and Administrative Committee

AGENCY: Agricultural Marketing Service, USDA.

ACTION: Final rule.

SUMMARY: This rule implements recommendations from the National Potato Promotion Board (Board) to change its membership and organization by revising the formula used to determine the number of producer and importer seats on the Board, reducing the maximum number of importer seats on the Board, and indefinitely suspending the Administrative Committee. In addition to these Board-recommended changes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) makes several non-substantive changes to clarify the start of the term of office for Board members and modernize the Board’s procedures. The Board administers the Potato Research and Promotion Plan (Plan) with oversight by the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS).

DATES: Effective February 7, 2024.
