WSDA SEEKS GROWER INPUT ON THE FUTURE OF WASHINGTON AGRICULTURE
To better understand the challenges impacting agriculture across the state, the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) is asking growers and agricultural stakeholders to participate in a statewide agricultural viability survey effort.
Over the past year, WSDA has worked with farmers, ranchers, producers, farm workers, and agricultural partners throughout Washington to evaluate the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the state’s agricultural economy. That work resulted in the Phase 1 report, Washington Agriculture at a Crossroads: A Baseline Assessment of Agricultural Viability, which outlines both the opportunities and challenges facing agriculture today.
WSDA is now moving into Phase 2 of the project and is encouraging participation from Washington potato growers and others involved in agriculture. The agency notes that direct feedback from producers is essential to understanding the real-world impacts affecting farm viability and shaping practical solutions for the future.
Several survey options are available depending on the participant’s role within the agricultural industry:
- Agricultural Producer Survey – for farm and ranch owners or managers
- Farmworker and Farmworker Representative Survey
- Community Survey – for processors, agricultural advocates, agribusinesses, hunger relief organizations, and consumers interested in agriculture
The surveys are expected to take approximately 10–15 minutes to complete and are available in multiple languages here.
Information gathered through the surveys will help shape WSDA’s final Phase 2 report, which will provide a comprehensive assessment of agricultural viability in Washington State. The findings are expected to help inform policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders on future decisions impacting agriculture across the state.
For Washington potato growers, participation provides an opportunity to help ensure the industry’s challenges and priorities are represented in statewide discussions regarding the future of agriculture.
