USDA FARMER BRIDGE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM NOW OPEN – APRIL 17 DEADLINE

USDA has opened enrollment for the new Farmer Bridge Assistance (FBA) Program, providing short-term financial support to producers navigating ongoing market disruptions and elevated production costs. The enrollment period began February 23, 2026, and closes April 17, 2026, making this a time-sensitive opportunity for eligible producers to apply.

The program will distribute approximately $11 billion in one-time payments, including $1 billion specifically dedicated to specialty crops such as potatoes, onions, fruits, and vegetables. This targeted allocation reflects the distinct cost pressures facing specialty crop producers and is intended to help stabilize operations heading into the 2026 growing season.

FBA payments are based on 2025 planted acres, along with USDA cost-of-production data and market conditions. For specialty crop growers, accurate acreage reporting remains essential, as it directly impacts eligibility and payment levels. USDA will utilize existing acreage data to pre-fill applications where possible, helping streamline enrollment.

Applications can be submitted online through USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) or by working directly with a local FSA county office. Producers are encouraged to use a Login.gov account and enroll in direct deposit to expedite payment processing.

As USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins noted in announcing the program, “These payments will help farmers bridge the gap as they continue to face higher costs and market uncertainty, ensuring they have the support needed to keep producing and feeding our communities.”
