SURVEY INPUT NEEDED TO AID IN CONSERVATION PLANNING TOOL DEVELOPMENT

The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA), Washington Soil Health Initiative (WaSHI), the Washington State Conservation Commission, and Washington State University (WSU) are asking growers, researchers and industry practitioners to complete a survey to determine conservation production practices in Washington’s cropping systems, what degree conservation practices are being adopted in the state, and the logistical and economic feasibility to implement these practices. From the data provided, the beforementioned agency will launch Saving Tomorrow’s Agriculture Resources (STAR) in Washington state. Data will aid in providing an agronomically feasible program and aid in development conservation ratings.
The survey opens March 1, 2025 and will remain open for a couple months.
STAR Tool will include:
- An extensive library for Agricultural producers in Washington state,
- Information and links to available grants, cost-share programs, market opportunities, equipment programs, and certifications,
- Provide pathways to improve the Conservation Innovation Plan of producers, and
- Provide flexibility to choose practices and principles that fit and allow for incremental changes to their production systems over time.
