MCCAIN HOSTS 2ND ANNUAL FIELD DAY
McCain Foods held their second annual field day on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 on the West side of I-90 near Dodson Road hosted by Dana Lutz. It was attended by approximately 80 potato growers, crop advisors, and other members of the potato community, including representatives from Bayer, Trident, Corteva, AMVAC, and the Washington State Potato Commission. Lunch was provided. Part of McCain’s "regenerative agriculture" program is to reduce the environmental impact of agriculture. They are examining the impact of Vapam, Telone, Strike 80, and nematicides without fumigation on the impact of nematode populations through the season and their damage, and the impact of Verticillium Wilt. They are also analyzing the relationship between the Environmental Impact Quotient (EIQ) of their treatments and yield, understanding that fumigants carry a high EIQ constant. The field trials are managed by Bret Reynolds of Reynolds Agribusiness.
