LAWMAKERS, TACKLE RISING FARMER SUICIDE RATES IN WASHINGTON
Washington lawmakers and researchers strategize to address mental health challenges among farmers. Farmers are 3.5 more likely to die by suicide than the general population, according to the National Rural Health Association. In 2024, the state legislature established a work group to focus on mental health and suicide prevention within the agricultural community.
Farmers in Washington are seeing rising labor costs, declining commodity prices, and managing the changing climate. These stress points are severely impacting mental health in the farming community.
