BRINGING AGRICULTURE TO LIFE: WHATCOM AND SKAGIT FARM CIRCLE EVENTS

This November, third graders from Whatcom and Skagit counties got a firsthand look at the world of agriculture through the annual Farm Circle events, held November 5-7, 2024 in Whatcom and November 13-14 in Skagit. With over 1,300 students attending in Whatcom and 350 in Skagit (its inaugural year), these events offered a unique opportunity for young learners to experience the impact of agriculture up close.
Students, teachers, and parents alike enjoyed rotating through engaging, hands-on stations focused on various aspects of farming. From learning about dairy production and potato farming to discovering the importance of water conservation and entomology, students gained a deeper understanding of why Washington's agricultural industry is essential to the world.
Representatives from local farms, including Ebe Farms and Hawley Farms in Whatcom, and the Washington State Potato Commission (WSPC) staff in Skagit, were on hand to educate and inspire. Thanks to the support of these community partners, the Farm Circle events were a huge success, leaving students excited to learn more about the role of agriculture in their everyday lives. We look forward to participating again next year!
