2025 NATIONAL FRY PROCESSORS TRIAL SHOWCASES PROMISING POTATO VARIETIES

The 2025 National Fry Processors Trial (NFPT) took place at the USDA-Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in Grand Forks, Minnesota on October 22–23, 2025 bringing together key representatives from the potato industry, breeding programs, and state potato commissions.

The annual event serves as a collaborative platform to identify, evaluate, and advance new potato varieties with improved quality and performance for the fry processing industry. During the two-day trial, participants independently assessed a diverse lineup of potato varieties developed by breeders from Maine, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.

Each variety was evaluated based on quality, color, texture, and yield characteristics, with top-performing selections advancing to the next phase of commercialization and industry testing.

The NFPT continues to play a vital role in connecting researchers, processors, and industry partners to accelerate the development of high-quality, high-yielding potato varieties that meet the evolving needs of processors and consumers nationwide.
