USDA ACREAGE REPORT REFLECT 2024 REALIZED A 2.5% REDUCTION IN PLANTED POTATO CROPS FROM 2023

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Acreage Report released June 28, 2024 documents that 941,000 acres of potato crops were planted in 2024 which reflects a 2.5% reduction in crops from 2023’s total planted acres of 965,000. USDA forecasts that 937,200 acres will be harvested in the U.S. down from last year’s harvested acres of 960,200. Michigan was the only state in the U.S. to see an increase in planted potato crops. Michigan growers increased their planted potato crops to 53,000 acres in 2024 from the prior year’s 50,000 acres of planted potato crops. In 2024, Washington state potato crops decreased 10,000 acres from the prior year to 150,000 acres. Likewise, Idaho planted 325,000 potato acres and Oregon planted 45,000 acres of potatoes. Idaho reduced their potato acreage by 5,000 acres and Idaho by 3,000 acres. In comparison, Main and Minnesota potato acre plantings remained level from prior year.
