USDA NASS’ MIDYEAR REPORT DIVULGES STATIC GROWTH NUMBERS FOR PLANTED POTATO CROPS

The 2025 mid-year report compiled by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) details that nationwide planted potato crop growth numbers have remained static. In Washington state, potato crop acreage has dropped 9% while planted acreage in Idaho, Canada, and California have remained level. In 2024, NASS surveys detailed that nationwide, potato acreage was down 1.9%.

In addition to the static acreage, fry processors have dropped a higher percentage of Northwest acres than total planted acres which will affect markets at harvest time for both fresh and open markets. Increased foreign competition in U.S. markets will also prove to increase pressure on potato growers nationwide.
