MattsonWashington State Department of Ecology (DOE) Director Laura Watson appoints Larry Mattson as Director of the agencies Office of Columbia River. Mattson will oversee the office’s mission to ensure the Columbia Basin’s current and future water needs are met and the region is ready for drought in order to protect water sources for farms, fish, and communities. Currently, Mattson works within the Washington State Department of Commerce overseeing renewable energy grants. He also has experience as an Environmental Manager at the Washington State Department of Transportation and has served his community as Executive Director for the Yakima Valley Conference of Governments, as a city of Yakima Councilmember, and as Yakima Pro Tempore.

The current Director of the Office of Columbia River, Tom Tebbs, is retiring from the role after serving Ecology for over thirty years and leading the Office of the Columbia River since 2015.

Mattson will start in his new position on February 1, 2025.
