DEADLINE TO SUBMIT APPLICATIONS FOR LEADERSHIP IN THE FIELD: FROM BATTLEFIELD TO POTATO FIELD IS MARCH 6, 2026

The Potato Leadership, Education, and Advancement Foundation (Potato LEAF) encourages Washington potato growers and industry partners to consider applying for the 2026 Leadership in the Field: From Battlefield to Potato Field program, a nationally recognized leadership experience designed to strengthen the future of our industry.

Applications are due March 6, 2026, and interested participants are urged to apply soon.

Hosted by the Potato Leadership, Education, and Advancement Foundation (Potato LEAF), the program will take place July 13–16, 2026, at Gettysburg National Military Park in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Through an immersive, on-site format led by Licensed Battlefield Guides, participants explore leadership principles drawn from one of history’s most pivotal moments, applying those lessons to modern agriculture and the potato industry.

Investing in Leadership for Washington’s Potato Industry

At the Washington State Potato Commission (WSPC), we recognize that strong leadership is essential to maintaining Washington’s position as a global leader in potato production, innovation, and market development. Programs like Leadership in the Field help cultivate the next generation of industry advocates prepared to serve on boards, committees, and national organizations that shape the future of potato farming.

Participants engage in hands-on learning focused on:

• Strategic decision-making under pressure
• Communication and team building
• Accountability and resilience
• Problem-solving in complex environments
• Visionary leadership and industry stewardship

These are the same skills required to navigate today’s challenges, from water policy and sustainability to market access and regulatory pressures, and to ensure Washington growers continue to have a strong voice at the national level.

The program is open to all sectors of the U.S. potato industry, with an emphasis on grower participation and broad regional representation. Preference is given to individuals who are currently serving, or have served, in leadership roles or who have completed prior leadership training. Washington State has a proud history of engagement in national potato leadership, and WSPC strongly supports continued participation from our growers and industry partners.

The participant registration fee is $2,100.00, which includes instruction, most meals, and lodging. Travel costs are separate.
