APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR AGFORESTRY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM CLASS 47

Applications are now open for Class 47 of the AgForestry Leadership Program, Washington State’s premier leadership development program for professionals working in agriculture, forestry, and natural resource industries. The application window runs February 2, 2026 through April 30, 2026, with the nine month program taking place September 2026 through May 2027.

Designed to cultivate the next generation of leaders in Washington’s natural resource sectors, the nine-month program brings together producers, industry professionals, and service providers from across the state. Participants gain hands-on leadership training, develop skills in communication and civil discourse, and explore how public policy decisions impact agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and rural communities.

The program includes approximately 22 days of required participation, consisting of three three-day seminars, four regional seminars held throughout Washington, and a weeklong policy experience in Washington, D.C. Participants may also choose to take part in an optional international seminar experience.

Eligible applicants must be at least 25 years old, have lived or worked in Washington for at least one year, and be currently employed in agriculture, forestry, or a related natural resource industry. Employer approval is required to attend all seminars. The Agriculture and Forestry Education Foundation, which oversees the program, particularly encourages producer applicants who are decision makers in their operations.

Participants represent a broad cross-section of Washington’s natural resource community, including farmers, foresters, processors, agency personnel, tribal representatives, and professionals in fields such as finance, education, crop protection, research, and policy.

Tuition for Class 47 is $7,500.00, with scholarships and financial support available. The selection process is competitive and includes an application, essays, references, and an interview with regional selection committees. Applicants will be notified of final selections in early July 2026.
