STRONG SALES GROWTH LEADS MCDONALD’S TO STEP UP DEVELOPMENT IN U.S. AND GLOBALLY

McDonald’s is intent on building new locations both in the U.S. and globally due to the brand’s strong sales growth since the pandemic. In 2022, McDonalds did something it had not done since 2014, add six more locations bringing them to a total of 13,444 stores at the end of the year. In 2012, slow sales growth caused McDonald’s to change their business plan to focus on building sales within current locations and between 2014 and 2021 McDonald’s closed 900 stores. This strategy has proven successful as existing locations are currently more valuable. The company now believes it’s the time to focus on growing units and is analyzing what kind of units and desirable locations. At the same time, the company is evaluating how the addition of stores will effect the profitability of existing stores. Consumers in America and across the globe will have the opportunity to enjoy McDonald’s at even more locations.

What this all means for potato growers in the Pacific Northwest is yet to be seen, but it doesn’t hurt to be cognizant of McDonald’s plans. They will surely need more potatoes.
