USDA has released its “Notice of Funding Availability” for the Commodity Container Assistance Program.  USDA has partnered with the Port of Oakland in California and The Northwest Seaport Alliance in Washington for this program.

The NWSA in Seattle has set up a 49-acre existing near-dock facility “pop up” site to accept dry agricultural and refrigerated (reefer) containers for temporary storage.  For the NWSA, USDA’s Farm Service Agency will provide per-container payments to agricultural commodity owners to help cover the additional logistical costs associated with moving filled dry and refrigerated containers, including costs associated with temporary storage, to the “pop up” site.

Please join The Northwest Seaport Alliance and USDA for a virtual briefing on how to apply for these funds.  Representatives from the NWSA will also be on hand to answer any additional questions.

Presenters:  Michael Schmidt and Kelly Dawson, USDA
