The Washington State Potato Commission (WSPC) needs your help spreading the word on the health benefits of potatoes for athletes! For many years, potatoes have been categorized as unhealthy, which isn’t true! Studies have found that athletes are using potatoes as a powerful fuel before, during, and after major events. Replacing gels during long endurance runs and rides with a few small boiled potatoes gives athletes the energy to continue. The complex carbohydrates in potatoes provide energy and are an important fuel for the muscles during exercise.
