ChelanMan 2018

on Monday, 23 July 2018. Posted in Blog & News

After several months of preparation, WSPC kicked off our Powered by Potatoes campaign at the 11th annual ChelanMan Triathlon in Chelan, WA! The purpose of this race is to come together as a community to support healthy lifestyles for our youth, families, and athletes. As a sponsor WSPC had the opportunity to share information, recipes, and athletic gear with more than 1,400 athletes in Chelan last weekend. Connecting potato nutrition to athletic performance is our key reason for supporting this community event.  Athletes and families gathered to participate in our "Spin to Win" contest. Prizes included potato meal prep boxes, running fanny packs, water bottles, potato chips, shaker bottles, bandanas and cooling towels. The potato meal boxes contained fresh russets, reds, and yellow potatoes and instructions on how to incorporate potatoes into their weekly meal prepping activities.  Many of the athletes we spoke with were surprised and excited to hear all the health benefits potatoes have to offer. Potatoes are an all natural, nutrient dense vegetable full of fiber, protein, vitamins, and antioxidants. Plus, the significant amount of potassium and carbohydrates in a potato allow for energy boosts and quick muscle recovery! Potatoes contain no fat, no cholesterol, and no sodium, making them the perfect superfood for athletes!  On race day we were excited to hear about all the participants that enjoyed potatoes from our potato boxes for their dinners the night before.  Potatoes are the perfect pre/post-race food and can be easily used in many meal prep dishes. Check out the Nutrition and Lifestyle tab on our website to learn more about the ways potatoes can benefit your health!
