0.0/5 rating (0 votes)

American Farmland Trust (AFT) is offering six identical workshops for Pacific Northwest agricultural landowners to explore the concept of solar leasing. Solar leasing projects in the Pacific Northwest are projected to grow and presents a financial opportunity to farmers along with some risks. By 2050, according to a study by the U.S. Department of Energy Solar futures, 90% of solar energy will come from rural utility scale projects. During the two-hour workshop, expect to understand the scale of solar projects, the phases of the solar leasing process, agrivoltaics, and how to weigh the financial opportunities, losses and risks. Also, find out how to recognize the impact to the land and agriculture, and identify non-negotiable issues. Attend the workshop to determine if solar leasing fits into your farms business plan.

AFT has also collaborated with Farm Commons, a nonprofit organization providing farmers with legal advice, to write Solar Leasing: A Guide for Agricultural Landowners in the Pacific Northwest. This guide outlines for farmers how to gather information for, decide on and negotiate a solar lease.

The first workshop is offered on Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. pacific time via Zoom.
