5th Annual CB Tech Potato Days
On November 5th and 6th, Columbia Basin Technical Skills Center (CB Tech) located in Moses Lake held their fifth annual “Potato Day". CB Tech provides a hands-on learning experience for high school students with various technical skills and serves mainly Junior and Senior students from 11 school districts in the Basin. This two-day event is held for approximately 1,600 fifth grade students. Kids from the Moses Lake, Soap Lake, Royal, and Othello school districts came to participate. Each CB Tech class (manufacturing, culinary arts, automotive technology, medical/nursing program, computer science, cosmetology, criminal justice) set up a potato themed activity for the fifth graders to engage with. The activities included potato cannons, potato crafts, potato themed video games, potato quizzes, potato beauty scrub and of course sampling some potato products with homemade dipping sauces made by the culinary students. The Washington State Potato Commission worked closely with CB Tech on the event, and it was a total success. Without a doubt, students across Columbia Basin were able to absorb valuable knowledge about Washington potatoes!
