$50 Million USDA Grant Awarded To Oregon State University For “Climate Smart” Program

According to an article from Capital Press by Sierra Dawn McClain, Oregon State University (OSU) and its partners have been awarded a $50 million grant to implement a climate smart program. The goal of the program is to help farmers build new climate friendly soil management practices that will help achieve climate goals. Farmers will receive the bulk of the funds, approximately 85%, with the remaining going to operational costs. Several organizations are working with OSU to finalize the program, including Washington State University, Seven Generations LLC, LoCo+, the Soil Health Institute and the Industrial Hemp Association of Washington. Farmers, and tribes, will have the opportunity to apply for grants to implement soil practices that are climate friendly and, if awarded, their processes and implementation will be analyzed for effectiveness and improvements.
